Happy birthday | Liberty, Missouri Family Photographer

I realized that today (well, yesterday…but, I haven’t gone to sleep yet) is Ansel Adams birthday. I came across this quote of his, and it struck me that if I replace a couple of words, the quote reads as this: “No (parent) has the right to dictate what (a child) should perceive, create or produce, but all should be encouraged to reveal themselves, their perceptions and emotions, and to build confidence in the creative spirit.” ….LOVE!

Annabelle, I hope that I always encourage you to reveal yourself and your perceptions and emotions. I hope that I embolden you to discover your authentic self, to freely nurture your creative spirit. I hope that I never impose my own feelings, opinions or expectations upon you. May you always be yourself, with your own hopes, dreams and ambitions, content in the knowledge that you are adored for your own unique individuality. You are a treasure, and may I always be grateful for the gift that is you.

I spy | Kansas City Children’s Photographer

Annabelle is OBSESSED with find-and-seek games. She loves to play detective, create spy games and otherwise solve “mysteries.” If we can’t find the comb, she taps a finger to her mouth and says, “Mom, we have a case of the disappearing hairbrush on our hands…”

We found out that the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art has a scavenger hunt activity for kids every Saturday. Oh, happy day! Other then nearly having my camera taken away from me (apparently pictures aren’t allowed…yikes), we had a great time today. And I managed to sneak this photo – shhh! She loved the game, and we enjoyed the art, too.

Curly Girls | Kansas City Family Photographer

Annabelle is a curly girl. She has the sweetest honey-colored curls and I just LOVE them. She, however, often tells me she wishes she had long, dark, straight hair…like….wait for it…. Pocahontas. Haha. One day this past week, she convinced me to flat iron her hair with the straightener. I used a little product, but her hair was already curly and dry… so I’m surprised it worked as well as it did. Afterward, she asked me to get out the camera – and how could I not take pictures of this pretty girl? Especially when she has so many expressions.;)

Concert | Children’s Photographer Liberty, Missouri

We took Annabelle to see Taylor Swift this past Saturday, when she was in town for her Kansas City concert at Arrowhead Stadium. It was Anna’s first concert and so much fun for all of us – even my husband went, and he’s not exactly a Taylor fan, but he really wanted to enjoy Annabelle’s excitement. And to say she was excited is the understatement of the year…

Taylor “flew” over us during her encore, and here’s a photograph I snapped with my point and shoot… I wish I could have taken my professional camera, but those weren’t allowed inside.

We were really lucky to be so close to it all, with our floor seats right next to the bottom part of the gigantic “T” stage. Taylor walked out into the crowd and hugged lots of the little people, which sent Annabelle just about over the edge, of course. It’s so fun that she’s old enough to share these experiences – I suppose it’s one perk to her growing up! Her daddy and I both love live music and she appears to be a big fan too.

Carnival | Parkville, Missouri Photographer | Kansas City

My husband LOVES amusement parks. He’s a kid in a candy store at Worlds of Fun! Even a carnival makes him pretty happy, so when we ran into this one at Park Hill South, he was super excited to share one of his favorite activities with Annabelle.

And this was literally her face when she realized what the evening had in store – games, rides and cotton candy!

“Really? A carnival!?”
