Meet Jack | Liberty Missouri Family Photographer

This little guy is just as precious as can be! Jack looks just like his mama to me, and I loved getting to photograph his newborn session at only a few days old. Doesn’t he have the most beautiful eyes? He was awake quite a bit during our session (ahem) but we eventually tuckered him out, despite his determination! Once he was out, he was out.

I think what struck me most during this session was just how raptly in love Jack’s parents were with him. His mom couldn’t stop herself from saying, over and over, “I just love him SO much!” and “He’s just the CUTEST baby, EVER!” It always warms my heart to see a beloved new baby with his blissfully happy parents.

Expecting | Kansas City Maternity Photographer

Isn’t this pregnant mommy just SO GORGEOUS? Danielle definitely has that “glow!” Her joy in expecting their first baby was evident in every photo I took during our maternity portrait session. It was a rainy, cold day in December – but her smile lit up every photograph, and I completely enjoyed capturing Danielle and Zach’s happiness at the impending arrival of their newborn baby boy.

Family Portraits | Kansas City Family Photography in Liberty, Missouri

You may recognize this family from our portrait session here, when Elizabeth was only six months old. Time flies so fast with babies! We had a holiday family portrait photography session together this past fall, and I loved seeing how she has grown.

Twins | Kansas City Children’s Photographer

Isabelle and Bradley are craaaaaazy….crazy cute and crazy hilarious! These six year old twins were SO ENTERTAINING during our holiday photography session – and I am STILL smiling as I type this, just thinking about their antics. Two silly giggleboxes with so much happiness between them is a recipe for plenty of laughs, and I enjoyed every moment with these playful kiddos.

It was so fun to meet you guys!

Siblings at Smithville Lake | Kansas City Child Photographer

I met these two siblings at Smithville Lake in the Northland for a children’s portrait session. Dylan is very goofy and entertaining, while Audrey LOVES playing dress up with tutus, pettirompers, hairbows, crowns and wands. My kinda girly-girl! I had a great time photographing them in the late afternoon sunshine.

Isn’t Audrey beautiful?

And he’s so handsome!

He was being silly here, lemme tell ya. I love that giggle face!

A little rascal | Kansas City Photographer & Liberty, Missouri Photographer

I photographed Jackson at Shoal Creek Living History Museum in Hodge Park near Liberty, where we met up to take his portraits. This 17-month-old guy was a tough little tornado – all about the action! I loved getting to spend some time with such a curious boy. My bet is that he will grow up and always be “the man with a plan!” He knew just what he wanted and where he was going. His mom, Crystal, was super helpful and sweet! I love when parents really engage their kids during a child’s portrait session, even if they aren’t in the photographs – it helps keep the especially young toddlers guided while I capture their natural expressions. She sang, danced, chased and played – and we got lots of adorableness for her efforts.

Anneston’s First Birthday Portraits | Baby Child Family Photographer

I think Anneston has to be one of the happiest and most easygoing babies I’ve ever encountered! The cooler fall weather didn’t seem to bother Anneston at all, and she had smiles throughout the entire family photography session. I can’t ask for more than that – especially from a one-year-old baby, celebrating her first birthday with outdoor portraits!

These photographs were taken at Englewood Park in North Kansas City. Aren’t the autumn colors lovely?

Holiday Petites – a Holiday Mini Session Event! – Liberty, Missouri Children’s Photographer & Kansas City Child Photographer

Join us next Saturday, November 12th for our Holiday Petites – a holiday miniature session event for kids! We have two great collections to choose from and are looking forward to providing clients with digital files for their holiday card needs. This event is perfect for those who want a few updated photos of their children, but don’t currently require the in-depth nature of a full-length custom photography session. Babies can be photographed as long as they are sitting independently. Newborn, infant, maternity and family sessions are not provided during this event. Children sharing a session must be siblings. This event will take place at a park in North Kansas City. The location is approximately 20 minutes from Liberty, MO and 25 minutes from Overland Park, KS.

Peyton turns two! | Liberty Missouri Child Photographer

Peyton is an irresistible little sweetheart! She has an easy laugh and a quick grin, combined with such a beautiful smile. I loved capturing her two year old portraits! For her session, Peyton’s mom ordered an absolutely ahhhhdorable custom-made tutu and shirt that was just too cute. (I get so excited when my clients personalize their child’s photography session with uber cute and meaningful details.) Peyton is Elmo’s biggest fan, and years from now, these photographs will instantly bring to mind the precious days of her second year and how much she loved a little furry red guy.

Enjoy her gorgeous smile as much as I did! It was lovely to meet you, sweet girl!

Heriloom Portraits – how will your family remember you? | Liberty Missouri Family Photographer

This is a little girl named Louise, who grew up to be my great-grandmother. Her photo was taken on July 9, 1910, at the age of ten.

And here is my little sweetpea, Annabelle, age 5 – 101 years and 19 days later! – Louise’s great-great-grandchild.

For me, there is something magical about history, especially our own history. When I traced Louise’s family tree, I realized she named her daughter for her mother, Alice, and little Alice of course became my grandmother. I never met Alice, nor Louise, but below is a photograph of Alice with her daddy, my great-grandfather, Ray, whom I was fortunate enough to know as a young child. We called him Grandy. Annabelle sleeps in a wooden bed we think was made by Grandy, as it came from his home and he was an expert woodworker. Each night as I read stories to Annabelle before sleep, I often wonder to myself if Alice was tucked into the same bed, by her own mother and father. What stories did they read to her?

When I look at little Alice, I can’t help but smile. The clothes she’s wearing? My own little one has countless pairs of striped leggings, of tiered and ruffled dresses. It’s interesting to me how much stays the same, even as time passes. Little girls will always love leggings and dresses.

Here’s a portrait of Alice, taken at a photography studio, probably around age 10. I’m so grateful that Louise and Grandy took Alice to get her picture taken! It’s a treasure that I can hold in my hands, a tangible piece of our history that will continue to be passed down. How else would we remember?

And here’s Alice a bit older, maybe a school picture? I don’t know for sure – I just know I feel so fortunate to have these photographs in my own hand, to be able to show Annabelle, to be able to wonder on my own about the life of my grandmother who died before I was born.

Sometimes, I forget that the photographs I take of my little one may someday be cherished by Annabelle’s children’s children, or her children’s children’s children – like now, as I do. The photograph of Louise, above, is kept on a shelf in Annabelle’s room, next to Grandy’s antique family bed, and I think of that happy little girl in 1910 and know with certainty that future generations will treasure photographs of this quickly-passing time in the same way that we do.

Will a great-great-grandchild of mine see this portrait of Annabelle? And will they know, just by a glance, that she was a sweet and funny girl, a silly child with so much joy, sense of humor and happiness in her life? I hope so. But I will keep photographing her in the meantime, preserving our life and the memories that I already hold so dear to my heart. Because photographs do many things, but most importantly they remind us of a moment in time that connects us to our past – to where we came from, to the people we love and the family to whom we belong.
