We have a new cousin! My sweet niece is now a big sister to newborn baby Max, who is just as precious as can be. He came to see us at day 5, still freshly tuckered out from birth. I loved capturing these moments between big sister and baby brother, and of course mom and dad and sweet baby boy.

Max shares his papa’s middle name, and I think the two of them look quite a bit alike, too. But time will tell – babies change so quickly!

We love you, Baby Max.

Is anything sweeter than the awe of a new big sister? She was so careful with her little guy.

Jamison is a precious cherub! He’s just as cute as can be. Jamison and his family met up with me at Loose Park for a fall photography session, and I so enjoyed capturing his adorable sweetness. Despite having his immunizations the day before, Jamison was a trooper and I had lots of fun! His entire family is pretty special… and they have a great sense of humor. Dad showed me a cell phone picture of Jamison’s Halloween costume – what is not to love about a five-month-old posing as a lobster in an ice bucket? So cute!

But here he is, in all of his cuteness, peering out of a basket in a field of fallen leaves. Enjoy!

Maggie, their super friendly doggy, also made an appearance.

This one of Grandma and Grandpa just cracks me up.

What to Wear Inspiration | Fall Sessions | Liberty, MO Family Photographer

With everyone preparing for their fall family photography sessions this year, I thought it would be fun to feature a few different ideas for inspiration!

Remember to stay away from matchy-matchy and instead pick a few colors that coordinate well together and flatter everyone. Are you wondering what colors would look best on on your family? Consider your skin tone – is it warm or cool? Do you look best in muted colors or bright and vibrant? Check out this website to determine what your “season” is and the corresponding palette that goes best with your personal coloring.

Now! Onto clothes…

Notice that there are minimal prints but still plenty of color. Everything blends well and the focus remains on relationships and interaction instead of what everyone is wearing!

Charlotte: 12 days old | Kansas City & Liberty, Missouri Newborn Photographer

Sweet Charlotte came for her newborn session at only 12 days old, but feisty as ever! Isn’t she as sweet as can be? You might think from looking at these pictures that awwwh, she slept the whole time, right? Oh, noooo. But my tricks finally worked and she conked out – yay! Nothing is more fun for me than a sleepy, squishy newborn. Charlotte is a precious sweetpea in every way and I enjoyed photographing this new little family so much!!

Happy Father’s Day (to my dreamboat) | Kansas City & Liberty Newborn Photographer

I remember once waking up in the middle of the night, early in my pregnancy with Annabelle, and finding my husband wide awake, hands perched behind his head, eyes staring toward the ceiling and a happy smile on his face. I asked him what he was thinking about, and he said, “Oh, just swingsets.” He just couldn’t wait to play!

Annabelle is blessed with a daddy who cherishes her with the gift of his time. They have the cutest little traditions together, like washing the car on Saturday mornings, eating breakfast once a week at Winsteads, taking the puppies for a walk every evening, reading stories before bedtime. He is always emailing me ideas for our weekend family time together, asking me if I think she’ll like the Royals game or a trip to Science City to see the dinosaur display. Once he planned a roadtrip just so she could meet Barney “live” and in person. He’s already mapping out a trip to Disneyworld, all with the intention of helping her meet the Disney princesses she adores. I just love how much he loves her. She is a lucky, lucky girl.

And fittingly, he taught her how to ride a bike on Father’s Day this year. She came bursting inside to tell me she did it with Daddy’s help.

He looked at this photo the other day and told me it’s amazing to think how much he loved her on the day she was born, but the love that he feels for her now is more than he could ever have imagined in this moment.

It’s true, love only grows.

Baby Addison: 5 days old | Kansas City, MO Newborn Photographer

I met this precious sweetpea yesterday, when she and her mommy arrived for a newborn session. Isn’t she just perfection? Those CHEEKS! And only five days old… so new! She was a sleepy dream – especially when swaddled with a full tummy. (I love newborn photography… it gives me a baby fix!)

thinking about Haiti… | Kansas City Newborn Photographer

A little over a year ago, I fired up my barely-used sewing machine and participated in Soulemama’s outreach for newborn Haitian babies, called Caps to Cap-Hatien and organized with Konbit Sante. Her idea was simple – a shout for mamas around the world to create newborn caps from repurposed materials (jersey tee shirts, kids clothes, flannel sheets, bed linens, etc) and send – as a group – to Haiti for mamas and babies in need. I adore handmade items and I LOVE repurposing – but mostly, I love babies. When I read about the startling statistics of infant mortality in Haiti, I decided that my inherent lack of craftiness was not an excuse to keep from participating. Though Haiti is a really warm climate, many of the babies are born severely premature and they don’t have enough body fat to stay warm. Given the the terrible poverty that most Haitian women face, providing their babies with nourishing breastmilk is a difficult task, and babies have a tough time gaining enough weight to survive. Babies die from simply being too cold – a concept which struck me as so tragic that I couldn’t just sit and stare at my sewing machine with ignorance any longer.

After much trial and error (involving my husband literally reading the machine manual aloud to me), a few skin pricks and much determination – voila. I sewed a newborn cap. With a cute little knot on top. And then I realized it might be a tad lame to send only ONE newborn cap, so I went back and tried again and again until I had enough for a package to send. Soulemama posted that over 5500 newborn caps were sent to Haitian babies and their mamas.

And now, reading about the recent events in Haiti have really weighed heavily on my heart, so I just wanted to use this as an opportunity to encourage donations to the International Red Cross organization. Catholic Relief Services is another organization I personally trust and support.

Peace and prayers to those in the midst of chaos.
