Styling the shoot is an important part of creating beautiful images. Whether at your home or on-location in Kansas City, we are sure to get amazing images with a little bit of preparation. It’s best to avoid wearing any crazy patterns, but texture is beautiful in a photograph. Stripes, polka dots, solid and bright colors – all of those are fun! Most skin tones look best with certain complimentary colors. Accessories are usually must-haves to create variety, too – woolen hats, fresh flowers, funky tights, tutus, chunky jewelry, bright jackets. I will talk with you about having different outfit choices, depending on the location and style of your shoot – and during our pre-session consult, I may take a look in your closets and make some suggestions!

On the day of your shoot, be prepared! Have snacks and drinks available for your little ones. Diapers and wipes and hair barrettes and anything else that comes to mind. If your child has a favorite book or stuffed animal, please have those available as well. Don’t worry too much about shoes with little ones – bare toes are the best! Just relax and get ready to have fun. Shoots usually take between one and two hours.

For newborns, I usually shoots indoors at your home. Please contact me while you are still pregnant and with an estimated due date, so I can make space within my schedule. It is ideal to shoot newborns between 2 and 10 days of birth. It’s preferable that older siblings be elsewhere during the session, as too much noise and other distraction is difficult in helping the baby relax and sleep. Don’t plan too many outfits for a newborn – the best look is the cozy naked baby! Pretty diaper covers or knit hats are the extent of clothing for most newborns. I will have a space heater and other considerations to keep the environment warm and comfortable.

Proofs are presented during an in-person ordering session at your home, approximately 2-3 weeks after our initial session.
